The Ballymahon Mens Group has been running with support from Bridgeways Family Resource Centre. The group is an initiative for unemployed or retired men to come together to socialise, learn new skills and also contribute to the community.
This group began with FETAC horticulture and computer classes run in Bridgeways and the Adult Learning Centre.
Part of the initial horticulture course entailed maintaining the community garden behind the Dean Egan Library. The group is presently renovating a space in Nally’s Yard as a permanent base which can also be used for community events. They’re also participating in a dry stone walling course which members can then use to repair the old stone walls on the roads into town. This goes towards improving our environmental heritage and furthering the aims of the Ballymahon Tidy Towns Committee.
The Mens Group is also responsible for making hand painted signs for the heritage trail in the town. The group is always looking for new members.
