Church Choir & Innyside Singers

The Church Choir

The adult group meets for practice each Wednesday 8 – 9pm. They sing at 11.30am mass every Sunday and sometimes, by invitation, at weddings and funerals and other special occasions.

Christmas and Easter are the main church celebrations and the focus of a lot of effort and enthusiasm. Sister Maura Fay and Sister Agnes Murray were director and accompanist for very many years when it was predominately a students’ choir. These roles now  filled by Mary Clancy and Padraig Mc Gowan. The choir consists of men and women, singing in two or three part harmony. An outing to a show or musical and a few parties each year add to the enjoyment!

Innyside Singers

Established 1995, there are approximately 25 members in the Innyside Singers both male and female. They sing under the directorship of Sr Maura Fay with Sr Agnes Murray as accompanist, who, in recent years, has been replaced by Padraig McGowan.

Practices happen each Thursday between 8 and 9pm at Skelly’s Bar & Restaurant on Main St. The present chair is Maura Belton. The group was set up for people in the community who like to sing for fun! Secular and religious pieces have an almost equal mix, with popular songs like Leonard Cohen’s Halleluia, Beatles’ When I’m 64, and pieces from musicals and operas being the mainstay of rehearsal and performance, usually in three or four part harmony.

The Group organises at least one annual concert locally usually at Christmas and often another event happens around May, to coincide with The Goldsmith Summer School and Literary Festival. Over the years they have had various concerts away including among others, a successful outing to Prague in 2006. The Innyside Singers join with the church choir at major feast times like Easter and Christmas for community events. They also sing at funerals and weddings upon request, and often visit neighbouring parishes on special invitations to join forces with other choirs in different venues.
